CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING TESTS
These tests are done to detect cancer at an early stage even when symptoms are not yet evident. Early detection prevents the spread of malignancy to the other parts of the body.
The cervical screening tests include:
- Liquid based pap smear
- Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) test
COLPOSCOPY
Colposcopy is a procedure that uses a magnifying device to look for abnormalities on the vulva, vagina and cervix. It is done in our clinic as a part of a regular check-up. The image can be seen 30 times bigger to further rule out any abnormality including the extent of damage by using 3 % Acetic acid and Lugol’s solution.
PORTIO EROSION BY INFRARED COAGULATION THERAPY
Infrared coagulation therapy is used to treat cervical erosion caused by chronic cervicitis. This therapy eradicates local lesions by coagulation. Furthermore, it can improve local blood circulation and promote metabolism that promotes rapid healing with minimal scar formation.
HORMONAL ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES
Birth control pills work by preventing ovulation and changing the lining of the uterus to prevent sperm from entering. It comes in packets of 21 or 28 tablets to take by mouth once a day, every day or almost every day of a regular cycle. INTRAUTERINE DEVICE INSERTION AND REMOVAL
Intrauterine Device (IUD) is a device inserted into the uterus which prevents contraception. It has a T-shaped appearance and contains either levonorgestril or copper. Insertion of IUD is cost- effective and is a long-acting method of birth control.
Note: Vaginal infection tests are usually done before the insertion procedure to rule out any infection.
